I don’t know how one city can have so many stray cats.

In America, if you see an animal in the street, you pick the dog/cat up and you take it home and post lost animal signs everywhere until the owner inevitably comes to pick it up. If you did that in Istanbul, you wouldn’t have any room to sleep because every square inch of your house would be full of stray, homeless, animals! Most of them look pretty well cared for though.
Even gorgeous.
Some live in mosques.

Some prefer museums.

Some are very philosophical…

Or at least like posing for the tourists… Some liked to chill inside cafes like the rest of us…

Some hide from the tourists…

And most are very sweet and tame.
And here’s one guy having fun for you dog lovers…
All in all the people of Istanbul seem to love their strays. We often saw food set out for the dogs and cats and the people even protested their removal in 2012!
Decided to make this post a little less serious since the last one was so heavy! If you enjoyed this please subscribe (click Follow blog via email in the column on the right!) to receive this blog’s updates via email! Also, I love getting feedback so please comment!
Can’t believe I forgot to comment on this! It’s so creative.
I had NO idea Istanbul had this many stray cats, all unique and gorgeous. They look so majestic and perfect for their environment– you did such an amazing job capturing that in the photos.

Thank you! It was really astounding how many there were. Also, it wasn’t just cats either, dogs were everywhere too! However, they weren’t on cafeteria tables or inside mosques, so cats ended up making more interesting pictures. 🙂

Thats incredible! The thing that shocks me is that they don’t look anything like street alley cats, you know? They look like they are well taken care of and are perfectly content with their lives! Are the dogs the same?
